Now in its tenth school year, the MIL Sports Spotlight program was initiated by Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. during the 2000-2001 school year; it recognizes exceptional scholar-athletes in the Maui Interscholastic League. 

Athletes are selected by their coaches, in consultation with high school athletic directors and are featured each week of the school year in a personal profile, in a column in The Maui News. Boy and girl athletes are equally represented, as are more than a dozen sports.

Recognition encourages and reinforces the positive values exemplified by these young athletes.  Each Sports Spotlight honoree also wins a $200 award for his or her school’s athletic program, in the form of an A&B Foundation cash grant.  More than $80,000 in grants has been awarded to schools on Maui, Molokai, and Lanai through this program alone.
